The label can tell you a lot about a fashionable garment, but understanding what it signifies can take some practice. Is the garment couture or ready-to-wear? Is it top-of-the-line, diffusion line, or licensed line? Did the person whose name is on the label actually design it? And how does this information affect value?
Fashion and textile specialist Melissa Leventon will discuss a brief history of labeling in fashion, designer labels past and present, and what they can tell us about the clothes they’re sewn into.
