An interactive Private Look Inside a Legendary Frame Maker’s Studio

Join frame maker and master glider, Peter Werkhoven, in his renowned frame boutique, Aedicule, located in Pacific Heights, San Francisco. For over 20 years, Aedicule’s reputation remains as the art insider’s source for bespoke antique frames, mirrors, and meticulous, high quality restoration services within the art world. Peter’s rare expertise is highly sought after by San Francisco’s elite architects, designers, private collectors, and prestigious museums.

You are cordially invited inside Aedicule’s studio to delve into the art of fine frame making with a hands-on gilding demonstration by Peter himself, a live wood carving demonstration by Peter’s master wood carver, Carlos Mireles and an intricate oil painting demonstration by Aedicule’s conservator, Elizabeth Stafford. Additionally, Peter will discuss the principal aesthetics of framing, expound on the traditional rules, and discuss how and when to deviate from these norms to create uniquely artistic combinations. Pulling examples from his extensive collection of frames, Peter will demonstrate how a 17th-century Dutch frame can harmonize beautifully with a modern painting, or how a 17th-century Spanish frame can complement a Picasso masterpiece. Moreover, attendees will learn the key factors to look for in antique frames that are characteristics of value, that can help you in an art inspection. Participants will gain insight into identifying what traits could indicate a frame is a reproduction, and most importantly, know when it is prudent to seek the advice of an expert such as Peter Werkhoven for professional guidance.
