Membership & Privacy Update
Due to privacy concerns, ASA National will no longer share membership information with chapter leadership. This means we will not automatically be notified when a new member joins or a current member advances or updates their email, mailing address, or other contact information.
Sharing your contact information with the chapter is entirely voluntary and is not a requirement of ASA membership. However, keeping us updated helps us stay abreast of our members’ achievements and membership status, and helps you stay informed about chapter news, events, and opportunities. If you would like to remain connected, please let us know directly whenever your membership status or contact information changes. Contact Jia at: Admin@ASANorcal.org
We will continue to keep members informed through our newsletter and website, and we encourage you to stay connected with the chapter through LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook.
Below is ASA National’s statement explaining the privacy and security concerns behind these changes:
We are aware of unsolicited messages being sent to ASA members and understand the concern they create. Please know, ASA does not sell member, attendee, or conference lists to third parties.
Unfortunately, scammers can write anything in an email to make an offer appear legitimate—including falsely claiming that contact information came from an ASAdirectory, conference registration, website, or other ASA-related platform.
While we cannot control messages sent—or claims made—by outside actors, we are taking the issue seriously and acting on the information members share with us. To that end, as part of ASA’s ongoing commitment to protecting member information and strengthening privacy controls, we have two important messages for you.
1. In the coming months ASA will be implementing exciting enhancements to our Find an Appraiser search functionality providing better security to your public-facing information, and improved user experience. Please be on the lookout for more information coming soon.
2. In collaboration with our security partner, we are providing complimentary cybersecurity training for ASA members. This training will help you recognize threats and protect yourself both personally and professionally from scams and phishing attacks. Please access the free training here.
As always, please do not reply to solicitations, click links, open attachments, provide payment, or purchase any purported ASA-related lists.
