Chinatown Walking Tour Recap
A Sold-Out Private Tour Through San Francisco’s Historic Chinatown

On Saturday, July 25, 2026, our chapter explored San Francisco’s Chinatown—the oldest Chinatown in North America—on a sold-out private walking tour led by renowned Asian cultural advisor and historian David Lei.
Lei brought the neighborhood’s history to life through its architecture, landmarks, and little-known stories. A highlight of the day was the rare opportunity to view firsthand a painting by celebrated Chinese American Bay Area artist Hung Liu. Long believed lost, the work was recently rediscovered by David in the upstairs parlor of one of Chinatown’s historic family associations. The painting is expected to be loaned to the Smithsonian’s National Gallery of Art.
The tour concluded with a delicious dim sum lunch at the legendary Lai Hong Lounge. The sold-out event exemplified ASA’s multidisciplinary spirit, bringing together members from the Personal Property (PP), Business Valuation (BV), and Machinery & Technical Specialties (MTS) disciplines.
