Real Property Chair

Dana W. Burwell, MAI, ASA – After ten years in banking, I switched careers to real estate appraising.  My appraisal career started in San Francisco with Chuck Bailey and Charles D. Bailey & Associates where I focused on appraising senior housing projects throughout the state.  Desiring to appraise more local properties, I moved to Clifford, Hanna and Tattersall also in San Francisco and began appraising a wider range of properties in the San Francisco Bay Area.  My current focus is on appraising a wide range of properties in the North Bay including large ranches, wineries, vineyards in addition to specialized properties such as conservation easements, BLM land and residential development sites for low income housing entities.

I enjoy undertaking a wide range of appraisal assignments that require a more in-depth look into valuation issues, such as property rights, easement issues and other real estate issues.  Of particular interest to me is understanding the dynamic changes in the market place that result from shifts in the economy that impact particular property types and their market value.  I also appraise single family properties so as not to get out of touch with the local consumer.  I find that knowledge of local housing trends is very useful in understanding community issues related to housing affordability, development standards and zoning issues.

I enjoy my membership in the ASA due to its multi-discipline membership and the wide variety of appraisal assignments my colleagues discuss and teach on.
